The first few years it was more of an emergency pantry, and served between 2-5 families for the first year or so, and between 5-10 families a year in the
subsequent years.
The pantry outgrew the kitchen cabinets and moved into a Sunday School room, and then into a large storage closet.
In June of 2001 the pantry was relocated into a larger room at the church, which now includes permanent shelving, food packaging areas, and 2 upright freezers.
Currently we are serving more than 400 individuals per month, including many single parent and struggling households with small children.
A majority of our food is purchased from the Northern Illinois Food Bank, which is a part of America's Second Harvest.
On special occasions (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter), the food pantry provides special packaged dinners, food certificates, and other extras to help
families celebrate.
