Currently we are serving more than 500 individuals per month, including many single parent households and other struggling households, many with small children. Anyone living in DuPage County is eligible to receive food.
The Disciples Food Pantry operates on cash and food donations. A majority of our food is purchased from the Northern Illinois Food Bank , which is a part of America's Second Harvest . We also receive food from local food drives.
Clothing for Sale . The Food Pantry is now selling gently used clothing with most items ranging from only $1 to $5. Our hope is that Food Pantry clients can benefit from finding clothing that they can use for a very reasonable price and the Food Pantry will benefit by being able to use the money raised from clothing sales to purchase more food. |
On special occasions (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter), the Disciples Food Pantry provides special packaged dinners, food certificates, and other extras to help families celebrate the holiday. With the help of Toys for Tots and other contributors, we have been able to assist families with Christmas gifts for their children.

How It Began. The Disciples Food Pantry began as a ministry of the Christian Church of Villa Park around 1990 in response to neighborhood need as people continued to knock on the door of our church parsonage looking for food. It was initially set up in the church kitchen, occupying several of our kitchen cabinets.
At the beginning it was more of an emergency pantry, and served only a few families for the first year or so, and slowly grew in the subsequent years. The pantry outgrew the kitchen cabinets and moved into a Sunday School room, and then into a large storage closet.
In June 2001 the Food Pantry was relocated to a larger room at the church for sole use by the Disciples Food Pantry, which now includes permanent shelving, food packaging areas, and 2 upright freezers.
| Today. Today the Disciples Food Pantry is a thriving ministry of the Christian Church of Villa Park. Many members of our church community as well as friends from outside of the church serve as volunteers for the Disciples Food Pantry throughout the year. |

Over the time that we’ve been working in the Food Pantry, we’ve come to see many familiar faces who’ve become friends. We’ve been blessed as a family and this is a way for us to give back and help others.
